GTB App: Nigerians express frustration over service disruption

Nigerians have taken to social media to register their displeasure over the new version of the Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) mobile App.

The commercial bank had announced early in July that it would be updating its mobile app, GTWorld, in a bid to serve customers better.

Many users have struggled with the new interface and app architecture, along with the service disruptions that accompanied the mobile app update.

Reacting to the banking disruptions, a Twitter user named @bobzazi wrote, “I’m not digging this new GTB update at all. How do I log into my Gaps with the new app?” he asked.

Legislator and member of the House of Representatives, Honourable Akin Alabi, opined that the updated app is no different from those owned by fintechs. “The new GTB app has a feel like these new fintech platforms. My favorite so far, however, remains @palmpay_ng“.

Another user, @AmbMahmood, complained about the interface: “I just downloaded the new GTB app, and I am asking myself if this is the app GTB have been hyping all this while. The app is like moving from 100 to zero. Too bland and ordinary; even the Opay app has better features,” he said.

@Heykinsze expressed his confusion over the updated app. “I don’t understand why GTB decided to change their app, for heaven’s sake. The previous app was much better than this. If I had my way, I would rather have the previous app installed back on my device.”

GTB apologized to subscribers over the glitches they were experiencing in an email. The bank said, “We are aware that as a result of the recent update we initiated on the GTWorld Mobile Banking App, you have been unable to log in to the App.

“First, we would like to sincerely apologize that we couldn’t deliver the new GTWorld App to you seamlessly as we had communicated.

“While we are working round the clock to resolve the issues with accessing the App, we would like to kindly appeal that you use our Internet Banking for your online banking needs.”
