Ghana’s Black Stars may play their remaining home qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Nigeria, following reports that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) rejected their current home venue, the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

CAF’s inspection team cited significant structural issues at the Baba Yara Stadium, including poor drainage, an uneven playing surface, and inadequate grass cover, making it unsuitable for hosting competitive matches.

Other potential venues in Ghana, such as the Cape Coast and Accra Sports Stadiums, also failed to meet CAF’s standards, leaving the country without an approved stadium for their upcoming fixtures.

As a result, CAF has instructed Ghana to secure an alternative venue outside the country for their crucial qualifiers in October.

The Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria, is emerging as the most likely option due to its proximity and suitability. The 30,000-seat stadium currently serves as the home ground for Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

Other possible venues being considered include the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny and Stade de la Paix in Côte d’Ivoire, Japoma Stadium in Douala, Cameroon, and the Berkane Municipal Stadium in Morocco.

The Ghana Football Association is expected to make an official announcement regarding their choice of venue in the coming days.
