    Former Ogun State governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel has retired from active politics

    Former Ogun state governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and from active politics.

    Daniel who was the director general of Atiku Abubakar presidential campaign cited personal reasons for his decision to quit.

    In a letter addressed to the national chairman of the PDP, Mr. Uche Secondus on 14 March 2019, Daniel said he would not partake in active politics.

    Daniel had supported Prince Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress in his native state of Ogun, after having fallen out with the candidate of his party, Buruji Kashamu.

    “This is to inform you of my intention to resign from active and partisan politics with effect from today, the 14th day of March, 2019.

    “My decision in this regard is entirely personal to me and having served in various capacities, including as Governor of Ogun State, I have resolved to immerse myself in some other vocations and take on some new challenges,” he said in the letter.

    Mr. Daniel is the owner of Kresta Laurel, a company he started in 1990 and
    the Nigerian Compass, a daily newspaper.
