Following the suspension of Godwin Emefiele as governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), President Bola Tinubu has named Mr. Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi as interim governor.

The SGF’s office requested that the suspended CBN Governor, Mr. Emefiele, hand over to him immediately.

In June 2018, President Muhammadu Buhari confirmed the nomination of Mr. Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and he commenced his duties on October 17th under the Operations Directorate.

Mr. Shonubi has often taken a hawkish monetary policy stand, pushing for higher interest rates. For example, at the last MPR in November 2023, he voted for the MPR to be raised to 16.5%, which was adopted.
