An early morning fire incident that engulfed a residence at Kundila Layin Baba Impossible in the Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State has resulted in the death of four family members.
The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, disclosed the incident in a statement on Wednesday.
He mentioned that the inferno was reported at about 4:13 a.m. by one of its officers, Abba Datti.
“One of our personnel, Abba Datti, reported the incident at about 4:13 am today (Wednesday),” Abdullahi stated.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered the ground floor building, measuring about 40 by 30 feet and used as a dwelling, already overtaken by flames.
The inferno destroyed two bedrooms, a parlor, a kitchen, and a toilet. According to the statement, five occupants were trapped inside the house, including the 43-year-old father, Shodandi; his wife, Rafi’a, 30; and their two daughters, three-year-old Mardiya and one-and-a-half-year-old Yusira.
The Fire Service condoled with the bereaved family and advised residents to be cautious when handling fire-related materials, especially during the harmattan season.
However, a preliminary investigation revealed that the fire was caused by a mosquito coil lit by the family before sleeping.
