A fire outbreak on Wednesday morning razed Itamaga Plank market, Ikorodu, Lagos State.

In a statement, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) PRO, Nosa Okunbor said on Wednesday that it received distress calls and immediately activated its Lion Squad from the Agbowa Base.

When they arrived at the market at around 4:20 AM on Wednesday, they found one of the shops completely destroyed by inferno.

However, after a thorough investigation, the agency revealed that the blaze originated from a power surge.

“The prompt intervention and coordinated efforts of the LRT and LASG Fire & Rescue Service ensured the fire was contained and quickly subdued,” the statement read in part.

LASEMA said the blaze consumed the shop, resulting in the partial loss of goods and properties.

However, it added that the incident did not result in any fatalities or injuries.

The emergency responders had completely extinguished and dampened the inferno as of the time of filing this report.

Emergency responders secured the entire area, and residents received instruction on how to use electric appliances properly, according to the agency.
