A fire outbreak has destroyed the girls’ hostel at Dano Memorial Secondary School, Gidan Mission, Gani, in Sumaila Local Government Area, Kano State.

The fire outbreak occurred on Monday while students had already vacated the school premises for the end-of-term holiday.

The LGA Information Officer, Sumaila Gunduwawa, revealed this in a statement on Monday.

“The inferno razed the hostel’s building, leaving nearly all the students’ personal belongings in ruins. Fortunately, no lives were lost, and no injuries were reported,” the statement said.

According to the statement, Farouk Abdu, chairman of the local government, paid a visit to the school to inspect the extent of the damage inflicted by the flames.

Abdu, who called the occurrence extremely regrettable, extended his profound condolences to the school’s administration and the afflicted pupils.

The council chairman said that the local government will be donating fifty bags of cement to help rebuild the destroyed dormitory.

He promised the school community that the council would continue to support them during this difficult period.

The chairman was led around the area by the school proprietor, Rev. Alhassan Musa, who confirmed that the fire occurred shortly after pupils left for holiday.

He expressed relief that there were no injuries and praised the local government’s prompt response.

Musa thanked the Sumaila Local Government for their concern and kind donation, underlining the importance of community involvement in rebuilding efforts.

During the visit, the chairman was joined by his vice, Adda’u Liman, Administrative Secretary Suraj Kanawa, and Director of Personnel Management Bappa Gaya.

Meanwhile, Abdu has urged herders and farmers in Bango village, Kanawa Ward, to embrace tolerance and respect each other’s rights for the sake of peace and progress.

He made the announcement during a meeting in his office with members from both parties on Monday.
