Nigeria’s Flying Eagles suffered their first defeat of the 2023 FIFA Under-20 World Cup, losing to Brazil, who topped Group D with a superior goal difference.

The Brazilians, who were superior in the match played at the Estadio Diego Armando Maradona la Plata, made Ladan Bosso’s side come crashing down thanks to goals from Jean Pedroso and Arsenal’s Marquinhos in the 43rd and 45th minutes, respectively.

The Samba boys took control of the game after surviving that early attack from the Flying Eagles and have now extended their U20 record against Nigeria’s flying Eagles to five wins and one draw.

Ladan Bosso’s side dropped to third place in the group on goal difference after being denied twice by the woodwork.

Brazil tops the group with six points, while Italy came in second following their victory over the Dominican Republic.

However, the Flying Eagles, who have qualified as one of the tournament’s best losers, will face either the host, Argentina, or the United States in the Round of 16.
