The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has suspended Spanish FA chief Luis Rubiales after Jenni Hermoso was threatened with legal action.

In a statement read on Saturday, FIFA said “the chairman of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, Jorge Ivan Palacio (Colombia), in use of the powers granted by Article 51 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (FDC), has decided today to provisionally suspend Mr. Luis Rubiales from all football-related activities at national and international level.

“This suspension, which will be effective as of today, is for an initial period of 90 days, pending the disciplinary proceedings opened against Mr. Luis Rubiales on Thursday, August 24.”

The statement further stated that Spanish FA Chief or the RFEF are “ordered to refrain” from contacting Hermoso and anyone close to her.

The Spanish FA released a statement on Saturday condemning Hermoso and insisting that they would be taking legal action, but the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has now stepped in to provisionally suspend Rubiales.

According to the RFEF, “the evidence is conclusive. Mr. President has not lied.

“The RFEF and Mr. President will demonstrate each of the lies that are spread either by someone on behalf of the player or, if applicable, by the player herself.”

However, the World Cup winner released a statement that insisted she did not consent and that the RFEF pressured her into saying that she did.
