The Nigerian government has approved N25,000 allowance for doctors after the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) embarked on an indefinite strike.

The federal government noted that the N25,000 will serve as a peculiar allowance for medical and dental doctors in hospitals, medical centers, and clinics in the federal public service.

Chronicle NG reports that NARD gave the Nigerian government an ultimatum to meet its demands of a 200 percent increase in salary.

In response to their demands, the chairman and chief executive officer of the National Salary and Wages Commission, Ekpo Nta said the N25,000 allowance was approved.

He noted that the allowance is to be paid from the overhead budget.
