Fenerbahce have parted ways with legendary manager Jose Mourinho following the club’s failure to qualify for the league phase of the UEFA Champions League.
The Turkish giants announced on Friday that Mourinho had been relieved of his duties, just over a year after his appointment in June 2024.
During his one full season in charge, Mourinho guided Fenerbahce to a second-place finish in the Turkish Super Lig.
However, the team’s defeat to Benfica in this season’s Champions League play-offs proved decisive, becoming “the final nail in the coffin” for the Portuguese coach.
The Portuguese gaffer, who has managed some of Europe’s biggest clubs including Real Madrid, Chelsea, Inter Milan, and Manchester United, had been brought in with hopes of restoring Fenerbahce’s continental prestige.
More updates are expected as the club begins its search for a replacement.
