On Sunday, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State told a delegation of the northern elders from the Arewa Consultative Forum in Maiduguri, that despite a recent Boko Haram attack on Zambarmari village in Jere Local Government Area that President Muhammadu Buhari has done very well according to state records.

“From statewide statistics on affairs in the 27 local government areas since 2011, the fact is that despite the recent happenings in Borno State, the security situation in Borno State and indeed that of the Entire North East Sub-region is still far better under Buhari, and this is based on records,” Zulum told the delegation.

Chronicle NG has fact checked the statement of the Borno governor and has found this to be TRUE. The attacks by terrorists groups have been random and largely restricted to villages in Borno state. There are others that have been close to the capital, Maiduguri but the terrorist group has not been able to attack the Northeast like it did in the past.

To put a perspective to it, Chronicle NG recalled that in the past many attacks on churches and mosques especially at the end of the year were mainstay. Records support Governor Zulum’s statement that churches and mosques have been hardly attacked and that no major attack has taken place in the capital.

Despite killings, records show Buhari did better in Borno – Zulum

Although there have been two attacks on the governor himself, Boko Haram attacks have been largely curbed. Findings reveal that they use the Niger and Chad border as cover up for attacks on Borno villages and that the Buhari administration needs to place focus on erecting barricades to this effect.

Lastly, attacks on Abuja, Kano, Niger and even Lagos which occurred before the Buhari administration are no more. Other Northeast states Adamawa and Yobe and breathing sigh of relief.

Just to help us better understand the governor’s statement, Boko Haram used to control 17 LGAs but now they attack villages after making inroads from the border.

Boko Haram used to bomb churches, mosques and markets but all that has been halted now.

Boko Haram used to kill Christians, Muslims targeting special holidays like Christmas, Sallah, etc across the Northeast but now they have been restricted to random attacks in Borno State only.

Boko Haram attacked other States in Nigeria and they had attacks even in the Federal Capital Territory.
