An explosion, on Tuesday, rattled the General Hospital, Bagudo, Kebbi State.

Confirming the incident, the state police command, however, said no casualty was recorded.

The explosion was alleged to have struck the hospital in the early hours of Tuesday.

The incident, which caused panic among residents, was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, who stated that security personnel quickly controlled the area to prevent additional threats.

“The Kebbi State Police Command wishes to assure members of the public that we have full control of the security situation following the explosion at the General Hospital, Bagudo,” Usman said in a statement.

He revealed that a joint security team comprising the police, military, and vigilante personnel immediately cordoned off the area, while Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear specialists were deployed to assess the scene.

“We are grateful to confirm that there were no casualties. Although a building within the staff quarters was damaged, the occupants had already evacuated safely,” the police spokesman added.

According to him, the state Commissioner of Police has directed that more tactical deployments be made in the region to maintain public order and comfort locals.

“A comprehensive investigation is currently ongoing to determine the cause of the explosion, and further updates will be communicated as necessary,” Usman told reporters.

The police encouraged citizens to remain calm and avoid the hospital’s near neighborhood so that security personnel can carry out their responsibilities successfully while investigations are ongoing.
