Enugu is set to soar higher as Enugu Air, the state’s first commercial airline, officially launches on Sunday, 7 July, with Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, scheduled to inaugurate the groundbreaking venture.

In a statement signed by State Commissioner for Transport, Obi Ozor, the government expressed pride in unveiling the new airline, calling it a pivotal step in Governor Peter Mbah’s vision to transform the state into a modern transportation and aviation hub.

The airline, fully owned by the State Government, will commence operations with a maiden domestic flight, connecting Enugu, Abuja, and Lagos forming what it calls a “golden triangle” of air travel in Nigeria.

Starting with a fleet of three Embraer E170 and E190 jets, the airline promises a blend of efficiency, comfort, and adaptability, tailored to meet the needs of Nigeria’s regional aviation market.

But that’s just the beginning. Enugu Air plans to extend its routes to other major cities including Port Harcourt, Owerri, Benin, and Kano, reinforcing the state’s ambition to become a central player in West Africa’s aviation landscape.

The launch forms part of a broader, integrated transport strategy from the Mbah administration, aiming to deliver a multifaceted, future-ready mobility ecosystem for residents, investors, and visitors.

“With a strong foundation of innovation and sustainability, Enugu is ready to redefine air travel,” the government stated, urging Nigerians to support what it called a “bold and historic stride.”

As the countdown begins, all eyes are on Enugu this weekend where a new chapter in Nigerian aviation is set to begin.
