The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) Gombe zonal office has paraded 8 suspected fake fertiliser dealers operating in Gombe and Bauchi state.

Mr Micheal Wetkas Head of operations, Gombe zonal office, disclosed this to newsmen on Wednesday in Gombe.

He said that the suspects were arrested in Lariski Village of Kirfi Local Government Area of Bauchi and Gombe main market.

“When we received the news from intelligence that some elements were selling fake fertilizer to farmers, we swung into action.

“We set our machinery on motion and stumbled on the individuals, what we saw we could not believe because this is the pinnacle of wickedness from man to man.

‘’They were mixing the fertilizer with sands and other chemicals because of selfish interest. We met the perpetrators uploading the products in trucks and arrested them.”

He said the suspects have sealing machines, generators, and empty fertilizer bags of different companies.

“This is thwarting the effort of Federal Government in promoting Agriculture and we will not fold our arms and watch this happen,” he said.

He called on the public to be aware that such things exist and know where to buy genuine fertilizer.

Wetkas said they were still investigating the matter and as soon as they are through, they will charge the suspects to court.

Usman Adamu, 39 one of the suspects, said that his factory is located in Bauchi and he has been in the business for over a year.

Adamu explained that they mix the fertilizer with sand which they call limestone and other chemicals which they get from different companies in Katsina.

He said that bags were bought from different registered companies in Kano to repackage the mixed product. (NAN)
