The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a suspected fake football agent over an alleged N11 million fraud.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the anti-graft agency said operatives of its Benin Zonal Directorate apprehended Osagie Etinosa following intelligence gathered through open source investigations.
According to the EFCC, the suspect had been posing on Instagram as a professional football agent under the handle @officialking_etto, where he allegedly claimed to connect aspiring players with foreign clubs for trials and recruitment.
The commission revealed that in one reported case, Etinosa collected N11,000,000 from a victim, Samuel Beke Ohazuruike, with a promise to secure football trials in clubs based in Romania and Bulgaria.
However, the promised opportunities never materialised, and all efforts by the victim to recover his money were unsuccessful.
The EFCC confirmed that the suspect will be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded.
The agency reiterated its warning to Nigerians, especially young footballers, to verify agents and opportunities before making financial commitments.
