The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly gone after Abdullahi Adamu, the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), over failure to account for over N32 billion raised by the party from the sale of forms for the 2023 general election.
A source in the Commission revealed to The Whistler that operatives were at Adamu’s apartment on Sunday night after he reportedly handed his resignation letter to the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.
The operatives visited his residence located on Ali Akilu Crescent, by Aso Rock Presidential Villa with a search warrant around 8pm.
Around 8 p.m., the operatives arrived at his apartment on Ali Akilu Crescent, near the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, with a search warrant.
The source, who did not want to be identified, stated that he was not part of the team who went to the chairman’s house, but a colleague who was told that they (officials of the EFCC) were blocked from entering the house by police orderlies guarding Adamu’s household.
Despite assertions that the party’s account was audited, Adamu was said to have left barely N7 billion in it.
Adamu was claimed to have sought the backing of the party’s state chairmen in order to avoid removal, but he was unsuccessful.
The APC state chairmen were claimed to have distanced themselves from Adamu’s purported actions since he did not carry them out in accordance with the party’s constitution.
At the time of filing this report, the EFCC’s spokesman was yet to comment on the issue.
