    ECWA confirms pastor’s murder in Kaduna

    The Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) has confirmed that one of its pastors was killed in Kaduna state.

    Reverend Silas Yakubu Ali was murdered by unknown assailants on Saturday in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area.

    The ECWA Zonon District Church Council (DCC) who confirmed the incident on Sunday, sent a circular to all its branches, informing them of the latest development.

    The victim was the Senior Pastor of ECWA in Kibori and the former DCC Assistant Secretary.

    Rev Ali was reportedly butchered to death after he left his residence for Kafanchan on Saturday.

    A group of well-wishers were organised to search for him when was not reachable. His mutilated body was eventually discovered on Sunday morning in Kibori near Asha-Awuce.

    Matchete marks on his body indicated that he was attacked and butchered to death.

    The Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, confirmed the incident, adding that security operatives have already launched an investigation into the gruesome murder.

    Meanwhile, the state governor, Nasir El-Rufai has expressed deep sadness at the report of the killing of the pastor, describing it as horrifying and cruel.

    The governor prayed for the repose of the soul of the cleric, and also sent his condolences to the family of the deceased as well as the ECWA Church.

    He urged security agencies to intensify efforts towards apprehending the perpetrators of the heinous killing, while appealing to members of the community to maintain calmness.
