The Department of State Security (DSS) in Ogun State has arrested Hon. Damilare Bello Mohammed, a serving member of the State House of Assembly (OGHA), for his alleged involvement in rival secret cult clashes that occurred in Sagamu town last weekend, where eight people were killed.

The lawmaker, who was just elected to represent Sagamu State Constituency 1 on the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) platform, was arrested alongside five other accused cultists reportedly participating in the cult violence.

The five other suspects, Debbo Animashaun, Bamidele Saheed, Ismaila Onitire, Adewale Otesanya, and Tobi Owoade, were apprehended by DSS agents during a sting operation after a tip-off at the lawmaker’s apartment in the early hours of Thursday.

According to a statement issued by ‘Lekan Adeniran, the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Governor Dapo Abiodun, the DSS had followed the six suspected cultists to the lawmaker’s official residence, where he was reportedly providing sanctuary to the cultists, since Wednesday.

According to Adeniran’s statement, the suspects are currently being interrogated in DSS custody after various hazardous weapons, including guns, were confiscated from them.

Recall that Hon. Bello was arrested by the DSS earlier this year for allegedly masterminding the violent protest in Sagamu where irate youths vandalized about ten banks and other public infrastructure in protest of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) naira redesign policy.
