Olatunji Disu, the acting inspector-general of police (IGP) , held his first official meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House on Tuesday.
Disu arrived at the Presidential Villa around 3 pm ahead of a brief ceremony where he is expected to be formally decorated with his new rank.
Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s special adviser on information and strategy, confirmed that the president accepted Kayode Egbetokun’s resignation, citing “pressing family issues”.
Following the ceremony, a handing-over event will take place at the Nigeria Police Force headquarters in Abuja, involving Egbetokun.
Under the Police Act 2020, Tinubu will also convene a meeting of the Nigeria Police Council to formally consider Disu’s appointment, after which his name will be forwarded to the Senate for confirmation.
Before this promotion, Disu served as assistant inspector-general of police (AIG) at the force criminal investigation department (FCID) annex in Alagbon, Lagos. Since joining the force in 1992, he has held leadership roles nationwide, including commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos, head of the intelligence response team, commissioner of police in Rivers state, and AIG in charge of the special protection unit in the Federal Capital Territory.
