The Delta State College of Nursing Sciences has withdrawn the disciplinary query issued to student nurse Osato Edobor over her involvement in a viral video at an event attended by the first lady, Oluremi Tinubu.
A letter dated March 28 and signed by the institution’s provost, Evbodaghe Rita Ogonne, confirmed the withdrawal of the query.
The reversal came after Joseph Onojaeme, the Delta state commissioner for health, directed the school to rescind its action.
The college had previously accused Edobor of engaging in a “malicious act” by recording an unofficial video of the first lady’s visit to Asaba on March 27.
The footage showed nursing students rejecting the first lady’s title as “everyone’s mother” during a welcome song in a reaction widely interpreted as political dissent.

The withdrawal letter instructed Edobor to return the query through the student affairs office.
It expressed regret for any inconvenience caused.
The institution, however, did not address the broader concerns surrounding freedom of expression raised by the incident.
The initial disciplinary action had sparked public debate.
Many linked the students’ reaction to growing frustration over economic hardship and governance issues in the country.
The withdrawal of the query issued to Osato Edobor echoes a similar controversy involving Ushie Rita Uguamaye, a youth corps member in Lagos who was summoned by state officials in March 2025 after criticising the president.
