The Labour Party (LP) members representing Igboeze/Udenu and Igboeze South/Nsukka Federal Constituencies, Mr Dennis Agbo and Mark-Chidi Obetta, respectively, on Thursday defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State.

Mr Malachi-Okey Onyechi, who represents the Nsukka West State Constituency, defected alongside them.

Earlier, two LP chieftains, Prince Emeka Mamah and Titus Odo, defected to the PDP on Tuesday, just two weeks after the LP’s governorship candidate for the 2023 elections, Chijioke Edeoga, abandoned the LP for the PDP.

The decampees were PDP members who defected to the LP in the 2023 general elections.

During the defection at the PDP Secretariat in Enugu, Onyechi expressed his joy at reuniting with his former party and promised to work together to advance the party forward.

He praised Gov. Peter Mbah’s developmental efforts, claiming that he had launched a ₦2 billion project spread across 260 political wards in Enugu.

Obetta, for his part, indicated that his comeback to the PDP was based on Enugu’s development indices, particularly in transit, education, health, and hospitality.

“Enugu State will achieve more if everyone partners with Mbah,” he said.

Agbo also commended his constituents for their understanding, referring to them as wonderful people.

After their departure from the LP, he announced that there would be no LP in Enugu State again, stating that the opposition would have significant challenges.

He praised Mbah for his imaginative leadership and declared that he deserved a second term.

Dr Martin Chukwunwike, the PDP Chairman in Enugu, welcomed them and expressed his gladness and excitement at their decision to rejoin their former party.

“With their defection, the trouble we encountered in the 2023 election is over. The tsunami is over, and 2027 will be seamless,” he said.
