Afrobeats musician David Adeleke, also known as Davido, reportedly profited after correctly predicting the outcome of Nigeria’s opening match at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.
The DMW Records boss wagered on the Super Eagles’ Group C match against Tanzania in Fes, Morocco, believing that both teams would score.
His prediction proved correct, as Nigeria defeated the Taifa Stars 2-1 in an entertaining match on Tuesday.
Ademola Lookman’s late strike secured all three points for the Super Eagles, giving Davido a handsome return on his investment.
According to reports, the successful wager resulted in a payout of $96,564 (about N150 million).
Nigeria dominated possession for extended portions of the game but fell behind after Tanzania took the lead against the flow of play. However, the Super Eagles rallied to tie the score before Lookman’s game-winning goal completed the comeback victory.
The victory puts Nigeria in a great position in Group C as they seek their fourth AFCON crown.
Nigeria will face their next Group C opponents, looking to build on their opening-day success and move to the competition’s knockout stages.
