Afrobeats musician David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has sparked excitement among followers on social media since announcing his meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron.
The music icon turned to his official X account on Thursday to share images from his high-profile encounter with the French president.
His caption read, “It was an honor meeting #EmmanuelMacron and sharing our visions for a better world.”
Although Davido did not reveal specifics of their conversation, the meeting demonstrates the growing overlap between Nigeria’s and France’s cultural diplomacy activities.
Macron has long expressed an interest in Africa’s creative and entertainment sectors.
Macron paid a historic visit to the Afrika Shrine, the birthplace of the late Afrobeat superstar Fela Anikulapo Kuti, calling it an outstanding center for the spread of African culture, strength, and music.
Furthermore, BusinessDay writes that last week, Lagos hosted some of Africa’s most promising creative talents at the Création Africa Forum, which honored innovation in digital fashion, gaming, animation, and immersive technology.
The Création Africa Forum, an initiative of the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and curated by Maison des Mondes Africains, is said to promote cross-continental collaboration and investment in digital innovation.
