David Moyes sees victory over Arsenal clash at Emirates

West Ham manager David Moyes believes there is much more to come from his team as they look to add to their top-six drive by stunning Arsenal for the second time this season.

Moyes’ men upset Mikel Arteta’s team in the Carabao Cup last month, winning 3-1 despite having only 28% possession.

West Ham know they won’t see much of the ball at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday night, but they’re hoping Mohammed Kudus and company will be clinical on the counter.

Moyes has made no secret of his desire to win the Premier League this season, and ahead of facing Arteta, whom he managed at Everton, the 60-year-old Scot said, “We’re really pleased with the progress we’ve made.

“We’ve got 30 points in the league, which is a really good total for us at this time of year. We want to keep it going, and we think we can get better and do even more.’

Moyes is hoping that his rope-a-dope tactics will give West Ham their first Premier League victory over their London rivals since January 2019, but he is aware that the hosts are huge favorites.

Arsenal would go top of the standings with a win, and Moyes was complimentary of Arteta on Wednesday when discussing the former Everton player he managed.

“I’ve been impressed with Mikel since he first went in,” Moyes said. “He won the FA Cup and the Community Shield, so a couple of wins right at the start.

“Then obviously it went a bit difficult and there was a lot of talk about him, but he hasn’t half proved all those doubters wrong because he’s done a brilliant job with Arsenal.

“He’s got them incredibly competitive, back around the top of the league and competing again. I think most Arsenal supporters will be happy with Mikel.

“Arsenal have always been a really hard team to beat. We had a good result against them in the Cup, but this is a different competition.

“The league throws up different players, and Arsenal changed their team for the game in the League Cup, so they will be back to their full-strength team, I’ve no doubt, and going to the Emirates Stadium has never been an easy game.”
