Suspected cultists have beheaded the President of the Omoku Youth Federation in the Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, Ifeanyi Azuazu, and shot dead his personal aide, Chigozie Oluwu.
Around 6 p.m. on Thursday, seven assailants invaded a popular drinking establishment on Ogolo Street, off Palace Road in Omoku town.
According to sources, the attackers arrived in two vehicles and confronted the youth president, ordering him to get into a car.
His aide, Oluwu, attempted to intercede but was fatally shot.
The gunmen then kidnapped Azuazu and drove him to an unknown destination.
The attack sparked terror among residents and pedestrians, with many fleeing for safety and business owners rushing to close their doors.
A viral video shows local kids assisting police and other security officers in transferring Oluwu’s body to an open patrol van.
A local vigilante group discovered Azuazu’s headless body in the bush on Friday afternoon.
The ONELGA Security and Planning Advisory Committee has confirmed the murder.
OSPAC’s Public Relations Officer, Godnews Nkem, said, “Chigozie was shot dead by the gunmen before they abducted Ifeanyi Azuazu.
“Based on intelligence reports and the effectiveness of OSPAC security, we recovered the lifeless and headless body of Ifeanyi Azuazu in the bush.”
While condemning the murder, OSPAC urged residents to remain calm and let police, the Department of State Services, and other security authorities do their investigations.
Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, confirmed the incident as cult-related.
She said, “Yes, I can confirm the incident. It was cult-related. The cultists invaded the area, shot one dead, and kidnapped the youth president.
“Unfortunately, the headless body of the youth president was discovered today (Friday).
“The Commissioner of Police has ordered a full-scale investigation to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure they face the law.”
