$1.2 billion illegal oil and gas exports: NLNG denies involvement in crude oil theft

According to rumors, Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Ltd. (NLNG) encouraged the illicit shipment of natural gas and crude oil from Nigeria.

Mr. Andy Odeh, the general manager of external relations and sustainable development, revealed this in a statement on Thursday in Lagos.

According to NLNG, it is simply untrue that some high-ranking government officials continue to support unlawful exportation.

Odeh asserted that the allegations that NLNG is collaborating with a global cartel to export goods illegally are baseless and an effort to discredit the organization and its leadership.

Nigeria ranks fourth on IDA debtors list with $13bn

He said, “NLNG is a responsible corporate citizen operating its business according to strong business principles and ethics in accordance with requirements of relevant Nigerian and global laws and regulations.

“From the commencement of its operations in October 1999, NLNG has never, and does not, engage in “illegal” exportation of LNG or any of its products, nor is NLNG involved in any international cartel, as alleged.

“It is simply not true that the illegal exportation is still ongoing with the backing of some top officials of government.”

He continued by saying that NLNG’s Bonny Terminal delivers LNG in accordance with all legal specifications for exporting its goods. According to him, deliveries are made via LNG sales contracts to mostly European, Far Eastern, Greater Middle Eastern, North American, and South American destinations.

Additionally, he stated that the company’s NLNG trade was subject to strict protocols and controls, making it impossible for it to be subject to the kinds of dubious schemes mentioned in the report. He cited the existence of fully accurate accounts of destinations, quantities loaded and unloaded, and related earnings on each cargo that could be proven.
