A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has adjourned an alleged procurement fraud case involving ex-CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele.

The court rescheduled the ex-CBN chief’s trial for January 18 and 19, 2024, to allow for more proceedings.

Emefiele is on trial on a six-count amended allegation of alleged car procurement worth N1.6 billion.

He had entered a not guilty plea to the allegations.

On November 17, 2023, he was granted bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties and held to the Kuje Correctional Centre till he met his bail terms.

At the resumed hearing, the Prosecution Witness, a top official of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), informed the court that Emefiele was neither the owner or shareholder of April1616 Investment Limited, which CBN granted a N1.2 billion car supply contract under Emefiele.

    • Emefiele granted N300m bail

While submitting many papers on how the firm was formed on August 1, 2016, he was led in evidence by EFCC lawyer Rotimi Oyedepo.

He then read out the names of the Company’s shareholders, Aminu Yaro, Maryam Abdullahi, and Saadatu Yaro, who are joint owners of the firm.

Mathew Burkaa, counsel to the defendant, who declined to talk on camera, claimed the ex-CBN chief had yet to satisfy his bail requirements.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Federal Government’s counsel both declined to comment on the day’s proceedings.
