Senator Bassey Albert claims that he has transferred a N100million hospital project to Senator Godswill Akpabio

Senator Bassey Albert Akpan representing Akwa Ibom North East Central District has stated that a N100 million project which he nominated in 2017 budget has been transferred to Senator Godswill Akpabio.

Akpan, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) nominated N100m for the provision of hospital equipment at the community hospital Ikot Uba, Ibiono Ibom LGA.

Responding to transparency platform, Tracka, Akpan said the project which falls under his constituency and which was nominated by him has been transferred to Akpabio who recently defected from PDP to the All Progressives Congress.

Senator Akpan urged Tracka to check with the contractor in charge of the project without giving any details on the status of the project.

The senator did not also give any reason(s) for transferring the project to Senator Akpabio, an alteration from what was recorded in the budget.

“Sen @SenatorOba, we are aware of N100m for the provision of hospital equipment at the community hospital Ikot Uba, Ibiono Ibom LGA, Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District, in 2017 budget. Our findings show that no equipment has been supplied. What is the implementation status?” Tracka asked the senator on Thursday.

But it was Unyime Okon,  a civil servant with the Akwa Ibom State Government that replied.

“May it please you to note that the said projects were submitted by Sen.@SenatorOba to distinguished Sen.@SenatorAkpabio (as the Senate minority leader, then) as a request, as shown in attached letter dated 2/3/2017 for inclusion under the Senate Leadership Constituency Projects,” he tweeted with a letter as evidence of the transfer.

Senator Akpan then added, “@TrackaNG ,you may please search further on the contractors that were responsible for the said projects,to respond to the questions concerning the current status of said projects.”

Senator Akpabio is yet to react to the claims by Senator Akpan as at press time.
