A one-storey building collapsed at Ishaga Road, opposite Idi Araba Central Mosque in Mushin, Lagos State, around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Three construction workers were rescued from the rubble of the collapsed building with varying degrees of injuries.

The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, stated that the building was under construction prior to the incident.

According to her, the building fall spurred a quick reaction from several emergency organisations other than the fire department.

She claimed that this includes the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps, the Lagos State Ambulance Service, and the Nigeria Police Force.

Adeseye stated that three male adults had already been rescued from the wreckage and were being treated.

The statement read, “A building under construction at the one-storey level suddenly collapsed at 96 Ishaga Road, opposite Idi Araba Central Mosque, Mushin, Lagos. The distress call was received at approximately 15:30 hours.

“Responding agencies included the Isolo Fire Station of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps, the Lagos State Ambulance Service, and the Nigeria Police.

“Three adult males have been rescued alive with varying degrees of injury. They were attended to at the scene before being transferred to the hospital for further treatment by the Lagos State Ambulance Service.”

Adeseye also mentioned that search and rescue operations were still ongoing as of the time of filing this report.

The LSFRS boss also revealed that the cause of the emergency was under investigation.
