The death toll from the recent cholera outbreak in Adamawa State has reached 12, with 304 people currently hospitalized.

The state’s Commissioner for Health, chief Felix Tangwmi provided the update at a media briefing in Yola, the state’s capital.

Last week, the state confirmed the cholera outbreak, reporting ten deaths and 76 hospitalizations. Girei, Furore, Yola-South, and Yola-North are the affected local government areas.

“Six of the 12 deaths occurred in the hospital, while the other six occurred outside. “So far, 304 people have been confirmed infected and are receiving treatment at our facility,” he said.

Tangwami reported that since the outbreak began two weeks ago, 244 patients have been treated and discharged. He also revealed that the United Nations Children’s Fund had donated 200,000 doses of cholera drugs to the state government.

“To prevent transmission from one person to another, the hospital administration quarantined two people who visited the ward with patients to ensure they were not infected. “They were tested before being released,” he added.

Tangwami advised the public to follow health guidelines and avoid drinking untreated water, assuring them that the government has taken steps to prevent the spread of cholera in the state.
