The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) said on Friday that Chad performed its first evacuation flights from Sudan, taking more than 200 people, including dozens of children.

Countries from all over the world have hurried to expel foreign ambassadors and residents from Sudan after a fight erupted between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, killing hundreds of people and turning residential areas into battlegrounds.

The UN agency, which is aiding Chadian authorities with the arrivals, said in a statement that 226 people, including 39 children, were on board two charter planes. The aircraft landed late Thursday in N’Djamena, the capital.

According to IOM spokesman Safa Msehli, two additional aircraft would arrive on Friday. She added students, the elderly, persons with medical ailments, and “extremely vulnerable families” were on board the aircraft that arrived in Chad on Thursday.
