The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has sternly condemned behaviour by some players and officials during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 final between hosts Morocco and Senegal in Rabat on Sunday night.

In a statement on Monday, CAF said, “The Confédération Africaine de Football condemns the unacceptable behaviour of some players and officials during the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 Final between Morocco and Senegal in Rabat last night,” the statement read.

The continental football body mentioned that it strongly condemns any form of inappropriate conduct during matches, particularly actions directed at match officials or organisers.

CAF also revealed that it was reviewing all available footage from the final and would refer the matter to the appropriate bodies for disciplinary action.

“CAF is reviewing all footage and will refer the matter to competent bodies for appropriate action to be taken against those found guilty,” the statement added

The majority of the Senegal team exited the field, and furious visiting supporters hurled items as they attempted to invade the pitch at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, with Morocco poised to secure victory in the final with almost the final kick of the game.

Captain Sadio Mane subsequently urged his teammates to go back onto the field.

Brahim Diaz ultimately took the penalty in the 24th minute of added time, but his attempted chip was stopped by goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, maintaining the score at 0-0 and sending the match to extra time.

Senegal achieved victory with a crucial extra-time goal from midfielder Pape Gueye, earning their second AFCON title in recent years, despite the win being marred by post-match controversies.

The consequences have attracted global focus, with FIFA President Gianni Infantino calling the situation “ugly” and emphasizing that “violence must not be accepted in our sport.”

In a social media update, Infantino praised Senegal for their victory while calling on CAF’s disciplinary committees to implement necessary actions.

Morocco’s head coach, Walid Regragui, described the incident as “shameful,” noting they failed to “honour Africa” in his post-match press conference.

CAF’s inquiry arises amidst broader tensions during the tournament, including prior grievances from Senegal regarding logistical problems and claims of biased refereeing during Morocco’s semifinal against Nigeria
