The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has partnered with the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) to launch a data verification service to ease doing business.

The Registrar General of the CAC, Ishaq Magaji, said that what is unveiled is an Application Programming Interface (API) integration of the systems of a few carefully selected private sector organisations (Super Agents) with the system of the Commission.

Magaji explained that the integration will enable the super agents to retrieve data from the commission’s database at a fee, modify or transform the data into a specific type of information desired by the super agent’s client, adding that the information is outside the framework of existing standardized information provided by the commission.

He said before now, API integration was only available to a few government agencies, especially law enforcement agencies and was aimed at strengthening their investigatory responsibilities in Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) processes.

“The API integration is now being offered to a few selected private sector organisations that have indicated interest and demonstrated capacity to deliver the specialised services.

“It is pertinent to note that the API integration, as designed, is sensitive to the requirements of the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023. Consequently, personally identifiable information protected by the Act, such as residential address, email address, personal telephone numbers, and date of birth, might be restricted,” the Registrar General said.

Magaji explained that the API is an opportunity given to the CAC’s customers more dynamically through technology-savvy companies to have integration with the commission, meaning that such customers can relate with the commission using the super agents.

“It provides opportunity for Embassies, for banks. They can do whatever they want to do the commission through a technology-savvy company like NIBSS,” he said.

“So some selected activities that require just the information, you can generate the information from the comfort of your zone.”

Responding, the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) expressed deep appreciation to the Registrar General of the CAC for the collaboration in delivering a new, publicly accessible data verification service designed to benefit all Nigerians.

Speaking at the public launch of the service, Ngover Ihyembe-Nwankwo, Executive Director, Business Development at NIBSS Plc, commended the CAC for demonstrating true partnership and a shared commitment to national progress.

“Today marks a significant milestone as we launch a service that democratises access to data verification, built with data protection, security, and efficiency at its core. This achievement is a powerful example of what can be accomplished when institutions work together with a shared vision—to deliver solutions that drive transparency, trust, and ease of doing business in Nigeria,” Ihyembe-Nwankwo said.

She emphasised that the collaboration between CAC and NIBSS reflects a new era of openness and innovation in public service delivery.

“NIBSS is truly thankful to the CAC for its forward-thinking approach and unwavering support. This is the beginning of a new dawn—one where secure, inclusive, and accessible digital services empower citizens and businesses across the country,” she added.

She said the NIBSS remained committed to deepening strategic partnerships that accelerate innovation and drive inclusive growth in Nigeria’s digital economy.
