The President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government has announced a 50 percent slash in interstate transport fares for the Yuletide season to reduce travel expenses for Nigerians travelling to celebrate Christmas and New Year.
This was announced in a statement on Thursday by Olujimi Oyetomi, the Director of Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Transportation.
“To commence the 2024 Yuletide road transportation, passengers will board buses to their destinations for only 50% of fares, as declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the statement read.
The initiative, announced by Tinubu, is part of a broader effort to provide transportation palliatives for Nigerians celebrating Christmas and New Year.
The slash in bus fares comes after the Federal Government announced free train rides for Nigerians during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Chronicle NG reports that the federal government announced 16 days of free train rides across the country for Nigerians travelling to celebrate Christmas with their families.
Mohammed Idris, minister of information and national orientation, said the free train rides will commence on December 20.
Idris said the initiative aims to cushion the impact of transportation costs, particularly for vulnerable Nigerians.
