According to the US military, two US Army Black Hawk helicopters crashed during a training operation over Kentucky on Wednesday night.
The condition of the crew members was not immediately known, Army spokeswoman Nondice Thurman said in a statement to reporters early Thursday, without specifying how many people were on board.
However, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said on Twitter that deaths were likely and that the Kentucky State Police and the state’s Division of Emergency Management were on the scene.
Crew members were flying two Black Hawk helicopters when they crashed in Kentucky’s Trigg County at 10:00 p.m. ET (0200 GMT Thursday), according to Thurman. The crash’s cause is being investigated.
“Right now, the command is focused on caring for service members and their families,” she said.
