Nyesom Wike assumed his office as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, after the swearing-in ceremony held at the State House, Abuja. He started his administration by issuing a warning to Abuja residents about illegal buildings, businesses, and environmental sanitation, among others.
In a viral video while addressing the public and press in his first address, Wike said his administration will pull down illegal residential buildings, recreation parks, and structures on green areas, among others.
“People who are distorting the master plan of Abuja, your houses will go down, he said.
“People who have built on green areas, your houses will go down.”
“Sorry, it will go down.”
The FCT minister questioned personnel in charge of refuse collection and disposal and stated that he would commit residents to mandatory sanitation fees for waste management.
The minister banked on his administration generating mandatory revenue from land space rentals and businesses in the FCT.
