The Presidency has debunked reports that President Muhammadu Buhari is supporting a faction within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President (Media & Publicity) said it was untrue that the President endorsed any faction in the party.

“The Presidency wishes to counter a public statement by one of the factions of the All Progressives Congress in Kano State, that they have received the endorsement of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“This is blatantly untrue. This cannot happen when matters are awaiting adjudication by the courts.

“To be clear on this one, President Buhari has not endorsed any faction.

“His support is for the All Progressives Congress as a party, united and strong, and not of any faction,” Shehu said in a statement.

The APC is scheduled to hold its convention on February 5, 2022 as multiple factions jostle for supremacy of the ruling party ahead of the 2023 general elections in Nigeria.

In Kano state, a faction loyal to former governor, Ibrahim Shekarau has been in battle with a faction controlled by the incumbent governor, Abdullahi Ganduje as cracks within the APC continues to widen nationwide.
