In what is being hailed as the biggest shock of the FIFA Club World Cup so far, Brazilian side Botafogo pulled off a dramatic 1-0 victory over European giants Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), ending the French club’s six-game winning streak across all competitions.

Despite a dominant start from PSG, including several early chances from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who continued his fine form from the Atletico Madrid match, it was Botafogo who broke the deadlock before halftime.

Kvaratskhelia curled an early shot towards the far post, only for John Victor to make a solid save. Moments later, the Georgian winger had another chance, but dragged his effort wide.

Botafogo, undeterred by PSG’s early pressure, struck on the counter. Artur tested Gianluigi Donnarumma from range before Igor Jesus made the breakthrough.

After receiving a pass on the edge of the box, Jesus—riding high on confidence after scoring against Seattle Sounders—fired a deflected shot that left Donnarumma stranded, giving Botafogo a 1-0 lead. It was the first goal PSG had conceded in four matches.

Both sides had clear chances to score in the second half. Lucas Beraldo had a close-range header saved by John, while Jefferson Savarino headed straight at Donnarumma from a promising position.

PSG thought they had equalised through Bradley Barcola, who curled in a beautiful shot, but it was ruled out for offside.

Despite dominating possession in the final stages, PSG failed to create meaningful chances, managing only one shot on target in the entire second half.

Botafogo held firm to claim their fifth straight win in all competitions and one of the most historic victories in the club’s history.

The result leaves Group B wide open, with Botafogo now sitting above PSG and Atletico Madrid ahead of the final round of matches.
