Kasper Hogh scored twice when Norwegian debutants Bodo/Glimt stunned Premier League Manchester City, causing one of the biggest upsets in Champions League history.

Pep Guardiola’s youngsters froze in the -9C conditions as City suffered another humbling setback following Saturday’s derby defeat by United.

Glimt absolutely deserved their victory, taking an unexpected lead in the 22nd minute when Ole Didrik Blomberg’s looping cross to the back post was headed in by Hogh.

City was all over the place defensively, and teenage defender Max Alleyne, who was responsible for the opening goal by sprinting to the halfway line but failing to intercept a pass, then miscontrolled the ball in his own half two minutes later.

It proved costly, as the hosts doubled their lead after Blomberg sliced the ball across the area for Hogh to convert a magnificent first-time finish.

Hogh could have added a third for the furious Glimt before half-time when he sneaked in at the far post, but Gianluigi Donnarumma smothered his effort.

Erling Haaland, who is typically prolific, has been in a slump, and his previous performances were summed up shortly before half-time when he had a chance eight yards away but failed to reach the target.

In the second half, Jens Petter Hauge’s magnificent solo effort, curving brilliantly into the top corner, placed Kjetil Knutsen’s side in dreamland, and while Rayan Cherki pulled one back, City were reduced to ten men as Rodri was sent off for two bookable offenses.

There was no way back for City after that, and they will need a win over Galatasaray in the last group phase game to secure a top-eight spot, while Glimt kept their playoff chances alive.
