Bayern Munich teenage sensation Lennart Karl scored for the third Champions League game in a row as the Bundesliga giant came from behind to beat Sporting.
The 17-year-old made history as the youngest player to accomplish the feat in the tournament, scoring with a powerful near-post strike to give the hosts the lead midway through the second half.
Sporting took the lead nine minutes into the second half due to an own goal by Joshua Kimmich, who slipped while attempting to intercept Ivan Fresneda’s cross during a quick counterattack.
Bayern equalized 10 minutes later when Serge Gnabry was left entirely unmarked five yards away to volley into the far post from Michael Olise’s assist.
Vincent Kompany’s team took the lead in the 69th minute when Karl expertly controlled Konrad Laimer’s floated pass into the penalty area and finished neatly with his right foot.
Goalkeeper Rui Silva could have reacted more effectively as the ball slipped through his fingers, but he was helpless to stop Jonathan Tah from scoring Bayern’s third as the defender tapped it in after Gnabry had headed the ball in his direction from a long free kick.
Bayern, now equal on points with Arsenal at the table’s summit despite one extra game played, controlled the first half as Karl had an early goal disallowed for offside and Harry Kane hit a low shot against the post.
Sporting posed a danger on the counterattack, and although that path resulted in the first goal,
Bayern proved to be too powerful as they advanced further towards the knockout rounds.
