Armed bandits suspected of belonging to the Lakurawa terrorists group have reportedly launched a deadly attack on a camp belonging to Nigeria Customs Service officer in Maje, a community in Kebbi State’s Bagudo LGA.
According to local authorities, the attackers stormed the facility on Saturday night, firing indiscriminately on the officers.
One customs officer was reportedly slain on the spot before the terrorists set fire to the camp.
“The terrorists came in large numbers and started shooting sporadically. Everyone ran for safety,” a resident of the community who craves anonymity told the press.
At the time of reporting this story, neither the Kebbi State Government nor the Nigeria Customs Service has issued an official statement regarding the occurrence.
When contacted, Muhammad Tajudeen, the Public Relations Officer for the Nigeria Customs Service’s Kebbi State Command, verified the attack.
“Yes, the attack actually happened, but you know it’s the doctor who can confirm if he is dead or not. We are currently at the hospital waiting for the doctor’s report. After that, I will let you know,” Tajudeen said.
It should be noted that the same bunch of armed bandits stormed the Bagudo Local Government Area last week, abducting the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Hon. Muhammad Sama’ila Bagudo.
The legislator was released on Saturday night after a week in captivity.
