The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) issued a warning Tuesday against the use of fairly used tyres, describing it as dangerous.

Dauda Biu, Corps Marshal of the FRSC, issued the warning when he met with the acting Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, at his office for a collaboration on intense vehicle database integration.

Biu requested that the restriction on the introduction of “deadly tyres” into the nation be strengthened.

He also encouraged the Customs chief to make the implementation of restrictions on the importation of automobiles whose ages were over the designated legal age limit at the time of importation a top priority.

The spokespeople for both agencies, ACM Bisi Kazeem and Chief Superintendent of Customs, Abudullahi Maiwada, stated in a joint statement that there was a renewed commitment to cooperate in the areas of human resource development and information and communication technology.

It said that successful fusion of existing information in the FRSC-hosted National Vehicle Identification Scheme database and the NCS vehicle database will reduce vehicle smuggling, increase revenue generation, and boost national security.

According to the announcement, Biu hoped that the agreement would improve the simplicity of doing business and make tracking automobiles without customs duty certificates very easy for the corps at the moment of registration.
