The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has temporarily relocated to Benue to tackle the ongoing security challenges in the state. The Niger State Police Command says it has detained for prosecution a dismissed soldier for alleged impersonation and fraudulent acts. This was revealed in a statement by the command’s public relations officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, on Tuesday in Minna. According to Abiodun, on May 27, at about 2:30pm, a case of criminal breach of trust, fraud and theft was referred for police investigation from a magistrate court to Tudun-Wada Police Division. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has authorised deposit money banks to begin charging fees for unstructured supplemental service data transfers straight from users’ mobile airtime. According to an email sent to customers by United Bank for Africa on Tuesday, the charges will no longer be debited from their accounts. No fewer than 200 prisoners in Karachi, Pakistan have escaped after they were permitted to leave their cells following a series of earthquake tremors. Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar, the provincial law minister, told reporters at the scene that hundreds of prisoners were allowed into the jail courtyard due to the tremors. “There was panic here because of earthquake tremors,” said Lanjar, adding that it was hard to control a throng of up to 1,000 people.
