The Obidient Movement, a group supporting the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has blasted President Bola Tinubu’s recent remarks celebrating divisions in opposition parties. The group described Tinubu’s words about the ‘opposition in disarray’ as undemocratic and harmful for Nigeria’s political future, implying that the president’s comments were part of a larger plan to undermine the democratic process. Tinubu, speaking to a joint session of the National Assembly during this year’s Democracy Day celebrations in Abuja on Thursday, publicly declared that he enjoys seeing the opposition in disarray and has no intention of supporting them in resolving internal…
The Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, has stated that the statement credited to Senator Seriake Dickson on Democracy Day, alleging silence and complicity on the part of President Bola Tinubu in the political situation in Rivers State, is not only regrettable but an unfair attack on a leader whose commitment to democracy and regional development is evident in both history and action. Lokpobiri, in a statement signed by Nneamaka Okafor SA Media and Communications, made available to Chronicle NG, said, “It is disheartening that on a day set aside to celebrate Nigeria’s hard-earned democracy,…

Chronicle NG gathered that the incident occurred about 9 a.m., when the bandits entered the Waya community and abducted four persons. They later went to the Basawa community at 10 p.m., when they kidnapped another five persons. The family of late Chief Moshood Abiola has demanded information about the supposed N45 billion debt owing to it by the Federal Government. The call followed recent comments by former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, who urged President Bola Tinubu to recompense the family as a symbol of national reconciliation and justice. Lamido had reignited a dispute over money supposedly owing to the late Abiola, demanding that the Federal Government pay the business mogul’s heirs around N45 billion. Lamido informed guests at the May 2025 presentation of his biography, ‘Being True to Myself’, in Abuja that Abiola’s company, International Telephone…
Israel’s fire service said its personnel were responding to multiple “major” crises caused by an Iranian missile attack, including efforts to rescue persons trapped in a high-rise structure. “Firefighting crews are handling several major incidents, mainly in the Dan region” in and around Tel Aviv, the statement stated. It continued that “firefighters are working in a high-rise building to rescue trapped individuals and extinguish a fire, as well as responding to two additional destruction sites.” AFP images from central Tel Aviv showed fire and smoke billowing from a residential skyscraper, with a massive hole at its base caused by an…

Senator Bukola Saraki has responded to President Bola Tinubu’s comment on the state of chaos in Nigeria’s opposition parties by acknowledging internal turmoil inside his own party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. He did, however, say that the party would straighten itself out. During his Democracy Day lecture on Thursday, Tinubu took a direct shot at opposition parties, expressing amusement at their hardships. “It is a joy to see the opposition in disarray. “For me, I will not say, ‘Try your best to put your house in order. I will not help you to do so, either,” the president said.…
Former Lagos State lawmaker Jude Idimogu has asked President Bola Tinubu to declare Chief M.K.O. Abiola as a past Nigerian President posthumously. Idimogu, who represented Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II from 2015 to 2023, made the request in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday. This comes after ex-military ruler Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (retd.) admitted Abiola won the 1993 election in his memoir. “I commend the President for recognising democracy heroes such as the late Kudirat Abiola and Bola Ige, among others, for their democratic struggles. “Yes, Abiola won the election, and I urge President Tinubu to declare him…
