The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) voted to keep the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) at 26.5% at its 305th meeting. The decision was made at the most recent MPC session, which had 11 members in attendance. The University of Cross River (UNICROSS) chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has commenced an indefinite strike over the failure of the institution’s management to implement the salary structure and other welfare benefits of academic staff. The union’s Chairman, Dr Patrick Ushie, issued a statement outlining many demands, including the immediate execution of the non-financial components of the 2025 ASUU-FG renegotiated agreement. A two-story building under construction fell in Umuoma village, Umuoji, Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State, sparking alarm among inhabitants and passers-by.  According to reports, some construction workers at the site narrowly escaped death on Monday evening when the structure began to cave in due to loud cracking sounds coming from the walls. The Lagos State Government has issued a restriction on the transit of products and heavy bags on all regulated public transportation buses in the state. The enforcement of the directive is set to take effect on June 1, 2026.
