The Presidency has announced that Nigeria is on course to meet its annual non-oil revenue target, following a significant surge in collections. In a statement issued on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Federal Government revealed that non-oil revenues for January to August 2025 reached N20.59tn, representing a 40.5 per cent increase from N14.6tn recorded during the same period in 2024. The Chief Executive Officer of StarTimes, Joshua Wang, has confirmed the cancellation of the pay TV company’s broadcast agreement with the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, citing poor returns on investment. Justice Ibrahim Kala of the Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered British Airways to pay a Nigerian passenger, Mr. Stephen Osho, a total of N53 million in compensation for the loss of his luggage and unfair treatment. The court awarded Osho N50 million as general damages and an additional N3 million as the cost of the action. Delivering judgment on August 21, Justice Kala held that Osho successfully proved that the airline violated its contractual obligation under international carriage rules when it failed to deliver his checked-in baggage on Flight BA307 from Paris to London on December 2, 2022.…

The commonly prescribed blood thinner clopidogrel should replace aspirin as a routine pill for preventing heart attacks and strokes in people who already have at least some degree of heart disease, researchers reported at the European Society of Cardiology Congress. Pooled data on nearly 29,000 patients with coronary artery disease who had participated in seven earlier randomized trials showed that those taking clopidogrel had a 14% lower risk of major adverse cardiovascular or cerebrovascular events, including heart attack, stroke, or cardiovascular death, compared to those taking aspirin, during an average follow-up of 5.5 years. “These results suggest that clopidogrel should…

Britain has temporarily halted a programme that allowed families of refugees already in the UK to join their relatives, as part of efforts to tackle irregular migration. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper announced the suspension on Monday while addressing lawmakers, explaining that the move was necessary to ease pressure on councils and disrupt criminal networks. “We do need to address the immediate pressures on local authorities and the risks from criminal gangs using family reunion as a pull factor to encourage more people onto dangerous boats,” she told parliament. The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has commenced an inquiry into the Abuja train derailment, confirming that 12 passengers sustained injuries out of the 583 people on board. Speaking on Tuesday, the Director General of NSIB, Captain Alex Badeh, provided updates on the incident.
