A five-member panel of the Supreme Court ruled that the Court of Appeal rightly ruled that Adeleke as governor of the Southwest State after the election tribunal had ruled in favour of former governor, Adegboyega Oyetola. Gunmen kidnapped 40 people from a church in a remote town in northern Nigeria on Monday, according to a local Christian group, in the latest attack on worshippers. Armed groups, locally referred to as bandits, have kidnapped people from villages, schools, and highways, primarily in the country’s northwest, where government security is weak. Justice Yelim Bogoro of a Lagos Federal High Court, today, ordered the remand of a 21-year-old lady, Cynthia Chioma Atuonah, for allegedly defrauding a German citizen, Rudolf Markus Kampf, of the sum of N110 million. Justice Bogoro ordered the remand of the lady after she pleaded not guilty to five counts charge of obtaining by false pretence, fraud and unlawful conversation made against her by the Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU), Lagos. The Lagos Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has initiated extradition proceedings at the Federal High Court, Abuja Judicial Division, against three suspects, Samson Ogoshi, his brother, Samuel, and Ezekiel Ejemeh Robert, over exploitation of minor and production of child pornography. The Ogoshis and Ezekiel were indicted in a United States Federal Court on December 1, 2022 on charges of exploitation of minors and production of child pornography resulting in death, conspiracy to distribute child pornography and conspiracy to commit stalking through the internet. The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress met with Bola Tinubu, Nigeria’s president-elect, and agreed that Senator Godswill Akpabio will be the party’s sole nomination for Senate President. The death toll from floods that devastated two villages in east Democratic Republic of Congo last week has more than doubled to 401, the provincial governor said on Monday, making it one of the deadliest natural disasters in the country’s recent history. The Lagos State Taskforce conducted a follow-up exercise and mop-up operation on the Lekki Coastal Road to reinforce its mandate of providing a calm and habitable environment for inhabitants along that axis by clearing out shanties and criminal hideouts. The operation, which began in the early hours of Sunday lasted roughly six hours. It was led by the agency’s chairman, CSP Shola Jejeloye, who said that 38 recalcitrant suspects were arrested.
