The Nigerian army has rescued 17 students and a lady who were kidnapped by gunmen two weeks ago in Sokoto state, according to the state governor. The raid on Tsangaya School on March 9 came two days after a mass kidnapping of pupils in Kaduna, also in the north. The students are still missing. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has cautioned Nigerians particularly those with relatives abroad, about a new fraudulent scheme being orchestrated by scammers posing as NDLEA officers. The Osun State Amotekun Corps says it has arrested two suspected kidnappers at the Oke Baale Area of Osogbo. This is contained in a statement issued by the Amotekun state commander, Brig.-Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi, in Osogbo on Friday. The statement said the suspects were arrested in the premises of Ogidan Grammar School and Nawarudeen Grammar School, Oke-Baale, at about 1:50 p.m on Wednesday. Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has appointed his son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, as head of the military, the defence ministry said on Friday. Kainerugaba, 48, a general in the military, is widely seen as his father’s successor in waiting and once stirred controversy by threatening to invade neighboring Kenya. A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered that the leader of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore group, Bello Bodejo, be remanded in custody of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA). The presiding judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo have the order for his remand after his arraignment on Friday.
