Kano Emirate: Sanusi, Bayero hold parallel Friday prayers amid battle for throne

The Kano State police command has commended residents for their peaceful behaviour as Emirs Muhammad Sanusi II and Aminu Bayero presided over Friday prayers simultaneously in Kano. Both emirs are laying claim to the throne. While Governor Abba Yusuf reinstated Sanusi,  Bayero is contesting his dethronement in court. The city of Kano was predicted to witness clashes between the two parties’ supporters, with the police warning potential troublemakers to stay away from the state. Zambia’s former first lady, Esther Lungu, has been arrested on money laundering charges, her lawyer said Friday, days after her husband claimed he was being targeted as part of a political vendetta.
